Observation on External Anatomy:
My observations on the heart external anatomy are that the size of the heart smaller than i expected it to be and the shape was obviously not shaped as a heart but round at the top and pointy at the bottom. The color of the heart was pinkish-purple and was much darker and red inside then the outside. Also, the weight was actually pretty light, it weighed around 1 pound and felt mushy in my hands. The atria and pulmonary trunk were on top of the heart and the aorta is the large hole and pulmonary trunk is like an open flap next to the aorta kind of underneath it.
Internal Anatomy:
My observations on the hearts internal anatomy are that the left wall is 3x larger than the right wall for the atria and ventricle. The chordae tendinae and the AV valves looked similar on both side, however the chordae tendinae felt like hard strings that would not stretch and AV valves were pink, soft and mushy. Some other observations i made were that the internal part of the heart is a darker- red color and much harder.

Questions:
1. The most surprising thing about the dissection would be how everything was so much tinier than i imagined to be, and the left side of the heart was so much thicker than right, also the heart has a lot of muscle!
2. The atria and ventricles are different sizes because the atria only has one job to collect and squeeze blood into the ventricles. Then the ventricles are larger because they need to contract the blood.
3. The left ventricle is more muscular than the right ventricle because the left ventricle pumps blood to the entire body and right only does to the lungs.

4. The left AV Valves (mitral) function is to close when the left ventricle contracts to prevent back flow of the blood from the left atrium and right AV Valve function is to close when the right ventricle contracts. Then the blood from the ventricles are able to go out of the heart into the blood vessels during contraction. Mitral and tricuspid valves open when the ventricles relax, to let blood to enter the ventricles from the atria.
